Zorgtoeslag (Healthcare Allowance) Application

Zorgtoeslag is a healthcare allowance for people with premium healthcare insurance in the Netherlands.

You may be eligible for the healthcare allowance if:

• Your income for the 2021 tax year is less than €31,138 or €39,979 if you have allowance partner.
• Your savings and investments for the 2021 tax year (until 01/01/2021) from Netherlands and abroad don’t exceed €118,479 or €149,819 if you claim jointly.
• Your income for the 2022 tax year is less than €31,998 or €40,944 if you have allowance partner.
• Your savings and investments for the 2022 tax year (until 01/01/2022) from Netherlands and abroad don’t exceed €120,020 or €151,767 if you claim jointly.

• You are military
• You are detained
• You are mentally ill
• You are under the age of 18
• You are in the Netherlands to study

1. A signed pack
2. Income statements
3. Passport copy
4. Marriage certificate / notarised cohabitation agreement, if applicable
5. Passport copy of spouse/partner, if applicable
6. Residency certificate of spouse (issued in the past 6 months), if applicable
7. Statement of earnings for spouse, if applicable
8. Copy of Dutch health insurance policy or other document confirming you have Dutch health insurance

A Sofi number is a unique personal number the Dutch tax and customs administration (Belastingdienst) uses to identify registered taxpayers. In order to apply for healthcare benefits, you and your allowance partner should have a Sofi number. If you don’t have one, we can arrange it for you.

• For the 2021 tax year the maximum amount you can get is €107 or €207 per month if you have an allowance partner.
• For the 2022 tax year the maximum amount you can get is is €111 or €212 per month if you have an allowance partner.

• Healthcare benefits application (Zorgtoeslag): 60 Euro
• Sofi number application: 30 Euro

For 2021 you should submit your application by 01/09/2022.

For 2022 you should submit your application by 01/09/2023.

If the tax year has already ended you’ll get a final estimate stating whether you’ll get refund and if so, how much. The amount will be transferred to the account the tax office has for you.

If the tax year hasn’t ended, you’ll receive a provisional assessment stating the monthly refunds you’ll be receiving.

The average tax office processing time is 3-4 months from the date your application is received. Remember to provide the required information in a timely manner, otherwise delays could occur.

Sofi number application processing usually takes about 9 weeks.
